Hello, it’s week two of Embracing Industry’s Home-based Business series. This week, I am so happy to be interviewing one of my dearest friends for over 20+ years.
Throughout the years I have observed her business skills, and I am very impressed with how she serves her clients and team members. In addition, I admire how she prioritizes her family by serving them first.
She loves what she does, believes in her product and represents her company well. I believe these qualities have added to her success!
Let’s learn more about Tanesia. I hope you are encouraged!
Tell us about yourself?
Hello, my name is Tanesia Belvin. I am a loving wife to a very strong and handsome Marine for the past seventeen and a half years, the mother of two very bright children ages 12 and 9, and an Independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant since 2008.
When and why did you start your business?
After having our second child, my husband and I decided that it would be best for me to stay home with the children until our son reached the age to where he was able to communicate effectively with us about his day.
Hearing about the Mary Kay opportunity, I was most impressed with the fact that Mary Kay founded the company based on the principle of God first, Family second, and career third.
Knowing that I could work a business at my own pace all while being encouraged to keep the things most valuable to me in their proper place, seemed like a no-brainer. Plus, we were living in a new state and it seemed like a great way for me to meet other women and make new friends.
Although it took me about a year and a half to commit to giving the Mary Kay opportunity a try, I am so glad that I did!
What is your favorite part about your business? What is your least favorite?
The thing I love most about my business is the flexibility to arrange my schedule in a way that does not take away from my family and the fact that we do not have territories in which we have to stick to while selling our products.
This means that I am able to maintain my customer base all across the United States, which allows me to maintain personal relationships with each of my clients. They can count on me for consistency, and I can count on them for the financial support they provide for me and family.
My least favorite thing about my business is that I am responsible for every aspect of it. I am the secretary, delivery girl, inventory lady, tester (because I need to be able to speak to my clients about the product from an honest perspective), money handler, gift wrapper, you name it!
Combine those things with all the other hats I wear, and things can be a bit overwhelming at times. Nevertheless, by Gods grace, I am able to consistently get things done.
How do you manage home, family, and business?
God first, family second, career third, this is the phrase that I have to rehearse on a daily basis to keep myself straight.
Remembering that the reason why I started my business was so that I could help out my Honey by making some “fun money” while being able to support him on the home front by managing our home well.
I am grateful to always have an awesome support system that reminds me of my need and ability to plan every detail by using weekly plan sheets. Consistency is key.
What one golden nugget of wisdom, would you give to wives and moms interested in starting a business from home?
Plan, Plan, Plan!
Oh, and don’t forget to (try) stick to your plan! Make sure to start each day by spending time with the Lord and asking Him to guide you in accomplishing your tasks for the day.
Communicate with your family so that everyone is on the same page, and no one feels left out. Establish boundaries (working hours) so that you do not always feel the need to be on the job all day long.
What is your favorite scripture that helps you in your business?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
It is my strong belief that I am exactly where God would have me to be and that He alone places me in the path of those whom He has blessed me to love on.
Some days I am tired, and some days are not as easy as others; however, when I remember to draw upon His strength, he continues to remind me that I am blessed by Him so that I can go and be a blessing to others.
Last but not least, I leave you with Colossians 3:17:
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.
